Sculptor Hamish Black will introduce groups to direct rapid constructed sculpture in card and paper, working on a large range of scale, from intimate to scale, from intimate to ambitiously large. Materials and tools are provided. For people who wish to work directly in steel, metal cutting, welding and finishing facilities will be available off-site in Hamish Black’s studio. Again, materials are provided.

Participants in the workshops may elect to attend both morning and afternoon sessions at a concessionary rate.

Silver Sculpture Workshops

Working with sliver – soldering techniques. Ideas for sculpture will be explored with Hamish Black and developed in silver with the assistance of professional silversmith, Andy Chapman.

Wednesdays 25 July, 1 August and 8 August only
These are whole day sessions, with a break for lunch

DEREK HOWARTH’S WORKSHOPS

Steel Sculpture Workshops
The Old Cement Works, South Heighton, Newhaven,
East Sussex BN9 0HS

Derek Howarth will lead workshops in which participants work directly with new and recycled steel. Previous welding experience is not necessary, as Derek can teach the skill within a day. The starting point for these workshops will be Anthony Caro’s sculpture, and will focus on looking closely at the on looking closely at the techniques he employs in his work.

As a long-term studio assistant to Anthony Caro, Derek has particular insight into Caro’s way of working. The workshops promise to be both enjoyable and informative.
