The form
of these bronze castanets is indicative of the forceful sound
that castanets make hard, staccato and rhythmic. The
strength of form
in this relatively small composition shows that Caro is still
at the height
of invention in his work. The piece is confident in its delivery:
solid form
contrasts with open portions. The castanets come together
in uneven
alignment, indicating motion that has echoes in the rocker-like
supports.
Caros
vision enabled him to find possibilities for sculpture in
a multitude
of everyday objects and in many aspects of life. The last
work is always
the beginning of the one to come.
