During
his career Caro his interest
in
the painting of both old and modern masters. The work of Picasso
has
held a constant fascination for him. In its title, Three Cubist
Pieces reveals
its origins. However the sculpture is not a version of something
made by
another artist, but is a composition that shows Caros
response to a cubist
mode of working expressing objects from a multitude
of viewpoints.
This is also a table sculpture, and here the table is incorporated
into the
work both as a support for the three elements and as an integral
part of
the sculptural form.
