A major educational project, this exhibition and series of workshops centres on the work of Britain’s foremost sculptor, Sir Anthony Caro OM. Caro earned his reputation as a great innovator in the field of sculpture, coming to prominence in the nineteen sixties with his welded metal sculptures. Over the decades his work has developed and changed, with recent projects embracing epic themes such as The Trojan Wars and The Last Judgement. Throughout his career Caro has constantly tried new, direct ways of working and new materials. He has also collaborated with people in areas of particular expertise: in papermaking, ceramics, architecture and structural engineering.

In this retrospective exhibition, held in the Regency Assembly Room of Lewes Town Hall, he has collaborated with people from East Sussex – children, students, teachers, non-specialists and professionals – to create a project that examines his development as an artist and some of his working methods.
